Color identity. Not just color.
What do you need to check?
Rulebreaker: deckbuilding permission.
The August notes explain the abilities. October announces a CR addition. Your commander’s color identity does not change simply because extra cards are allowed.
Separate identity from permissionMeld: an announced classification change.
The checked September rules still count meld as double-faced. October announces a separate category; publication alone does not establish when it takes effect.
Compare Tetzin before and afterTolabow: corrected on August 3.
The ability now explicitly checks color identity. October repeats that correction. Choose one extra color for the deck’s instants and sorceries.
Work through the card examplesChecked rules: September 25, 2026. October 19 changes are announced, not verified as effective at our October 21 review.

The official rules page linked the September document at our review. The October bulletin describes planned release changes; its publication date is not an effective date.

Which changes affect my existing Commander deck?
Using Tolabow? Check the one-color choice and unusual card layouts. Using Tetzin or effects that name double-faced cards? Compare the checked and announced meld rules. Planning a draft? Start with packs, player count and deck size.
Can I play the new MBC cards in Commander now?
At the October 21 review, the announced November 13, 2026 Commander entry date was still ahead. Reprints retain their existing permissions, while acorn and playtest cards remain separate. Check the dates and card categories.
Does the October bulletin mean all these rules are already in force?
No. It describes planned release changes and repeats an earlier Tolabow correction. Use the effective date on the rules document for your game. See the version comparison.
